Abstract

This manual gives information on how to choose an appropriate sanitation system and how to design, construct and maintain such a system on a self-help basis. The systems covered are: pit latrines, composting latrines, pour-flush latrines, aqua-privies, and septic tanks. After a brief description of each system, this is followed by practical examples and illustrated worked-out solutions. The last chapter deals with several types of communal sanitation system.
