Abstract

This report reviews and analyzes the findings of 144 studies of the impact of improved water supply and sanitation facilities on six diseases: diarrhoeal diseases, ascariasis, guinea worm disease, hookworm, schistosomiasis, and trachoma. It summarizes the broad, demonstrable health impacts effecting all age groups in most developing countries that can be expected from improvements in water supply and sanitation, and highlights factors that should be considered in order to maximize these benefits.
