Abstract

This report contains quantitative data collected during a knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) survey conducted in rural areas in India. The survey consisted of a benchmark study involving 4414 respondents in 8 states and a tracking study which involved 2407 people in 4 districts in 4 different states. The respondents and community data are described. The first section contains data on personal hygiene practices and disposal of waste of the respondents and their exposure to the media. The second section describes their practices with regard to water collection, storage and use of water, understanding of water, and hand pump use. Defecation practices and use of latrines are discussed in the third section, while the fourth section describes the village observation findings concerning water supply and sanitation facilities.
