Abstract

This action plan identifies the potential means of improving water resources management problems in the Near East (Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Tunisia and Yemen). The action plan summarizes actions, currently underway by USAID missions and its Bureau for the Near East, which contribute to meeting the Bureau's strategic objective, and suggests areas where future programmes may be desirable. It also provides an overview of water resources in the region, identifies and discusses three priority issues (water shortages, degradation of water quality, public and private sector resource management performance), and offers programme options that address these water resources issues.
