Abstract

This publication provides a review of the progress made on implementing the WHO/UNICEF Joint Water Supply and Sanitation Monitoring Programme as of 31 December 1991. Apart from providing an overview of the status of water supply and sanitation services in developing countries, the document also describes the progress of the monitoring programme in selected countries (Benin, Bolivia, Brazil, Cape Verde, Egypt, and Togo). The report ends with a review of the lessons learned from the country-level application of the monitoring programme.
