Abstract | These guidelines are intended for all categories of field staff concerned with small water supply systems. It provides the information needed to plan and construct, with limited resources, small systems which are easy to operate and maintain with minimal skills and running costs. Information is based on experience gained from unsuccessful water schemes that were constructed in large numbers during the International Water Supply and Sanitation Decade. The guidelines contain tables illustrating various aspects of water supply requirements, including bacteriological quality and chemical constituents. A flowchart describes how to select a water source. Attention is given to various water sources and systems, as well as technology. |
