Abstract

This booklet has nine short chapters, and aims to clarify the concept of sanitation and to facilitate its promotion. The first two chapters discuss the need for sanitation and the concept of sanitation. The subsequent chapters describe components of sanitation, namely: handling drinking water, disposal of human excreta, disposal of wastewater, disposal of garbage and cattle dung, household, personal and food hygiene, and village sanitation. The illustrations pertain to the Indian context.
