Abstract

This paper examines the widening scope of IDRC's Information Sciences Division's informatics sub-programme in response to a broader client base, the increasing diversity of information technology and the greater sophistication and knowledge of Third World information workers. MINISIS software is briefly described, together with examples of projects illustrating the support given by IDRC's Information Sciences Division to informatics for developing-country researchers, planners/decision-makers, development practitioners and information professionals, so as to acquire the skills for implementing and making use of diverse information tools ranging from microcomputers to expert systems.
