Abstract | A demonstration treatment plant using the Nalgonda technique for defluoridation was evaluated. The Fazilpur water treatment plant in Gurgaon district, Haryana state, India serves 2,000 people and treats 80 cubic metres of water per day. Field trials showed that a dose of 300 mg/l of commercial alum was required to bring the fluoride level down from 2.2-2.5 mg/l to the permissible level of 1.5 mg/l. There was, however, a considerable variation in the residual values of fluorides vis-a-vis residual values of total alkalinity and sulphates. Better controlledd operation in terms of alum dosing, flocculation and settling was therefore needed. Capital costs, operation and maintenance costs, chemical costs and energy costs for the plant are given. |
