Abstract

External Support Agencies each choosing different hand pumps for their projects can lead to great difficulties for Village Level Operation and Maintenance (VLOM). Following a recommendation by IRC steps were taken to standardise hand pumps in Cambodia. Eight stages including the preparation of a list of possible pumps, meetings with all potentially interested organizations, a workshop with these organizations, and the preparation of a report lead to the formulation of recommendations from the workshop to the Cambodian authorities. The workshop came with recommendations for three different pumps for the three lift ranges identified.
