Abstract | This paper reports on work done by the CSIR Division of Water Technology, South Africa, to evaluate ground catchments that have been treated with locally available materials, i.e.: gravel-covered polyethylene sheeting, paraffin\AB wax, and a tar product. Gravel-covered sheeting demonstrated the best yield and required the least maintenance. Although the water quality did not meet WHO and South African standards for turbidity and bacteria, the use of a\AB sand filter was proposed as a simple treatment method. |
