Abstract

Policy makers from OECD countries and from several countries in the Asia-Pacific region examined a range of policies and measures to improve the sustainability of water consumption and integrated water resources management. This report presents the discussions and conclusions of the OECD workshop on sustainable water consumption, which was held in Sydney, Australia (10-12 February 1997). Drawing on examples from OECD Member countries and selected countries from the Asia-Pacific, it examines progress made on a range of key water policy issues and examines some of the more innovative attempts to put into practice a wider vision of integration This publication draws together the proceedings of the Sydney workshop as well as some of the latest international thinking on this topic. The Workshop report builds upon a range of work in the OECD on water resources management, including studies on water pricing and the environment, biotechnology and water quality, and policies for sustainable water management in the agricultural sector.
