Abstract

This video provides flexible training material for trainers, wishing to explore issues of community participation, gender and environmental degradation. It is meant for trainers working with field workers who interact with local women and men in rural areas on a daily basis. The video consists of an Overview, which summarizes the key elements of using Participatory Rural Appraisals (PRA) to understand gender and environment. It is structured as a series of 2 to 14 minute thematic sections to stimulate discussion for specific training objectives. Three case studies of 28 minutes each show workshop participants using participatory methods to explore gender and environment issues in the field. Each case study shows a unique socio-cultural and environmental setting, and can be used as example or for more extended classroom-based analysis.
