Abstract

The aim of this document is to provide the basic framework within which groundwater development programmes for community water supply purposes should be undertaken. The activities addressed terminate at the stage where a successful borehole has been established and is ready for equipping. The document does not claim to be exhaustive in areas such as capacity building, groundwater protection and sanitation. It instead aims to define the minimum requirements expected by the South Africa's Department of Water Affairs and Forestry (DWAF) concerning the proper and effective use of groundwater resources for community water supply purposes.
