Abstract

This report, compiled at the request of MSF Holland, explores what in the future might be the role of an emergency relief organization in slum contexts, given the current trends in urbanization and sanitation. It is suggested that should MSF decide to opt for a long-term presence in slum situations, then a number of points varying from access to water, institutional, management, economic, and technical issues would need to be addressed.
