Abstract

This manual provides has been written for vector control personnel working in refugee camps in East Africa. It deals with problem arthropods of the area; biological influences on the choice and effectiveness of control methods; vector-borne diseases of the area; basic control methods and equipment; and pesticide safety and toxicity. The main arthropods covered are: mosquitoes; non-biting flies; lice; fleas; bed bugs; human scabies mites; and ticks. In addition the manual briefly discusses the control of schistosomiasis and rodents.
