Abstract

This review paper was prepared by IRC at the request of the Directorate of International Cooperation (DGIS) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Netherlands. It gives an overview of the key elements of five large donor-supported rural water supply projects in Tanzania. The paper describes the main developments in the period between 1971 and 1991 when water master plans were prepared and projects implemented. It also identifies trends in approaches and issues for further development.
