Abstract

This manual describes a practical low-cost solution to the lack of basic sanitation facilities in the form of a "SanPlat": a specially designed concrete platform that can be installed easily in rural latrines. "SanPlats" can be built using locally available materials and skills. Following a review of common types of latrines, the book provides guidelines for design and construction of SanPlats and guidelines for planning, promoting, managing, monitoring and evaluating latrine building programmes.
