Abstract

A project in Manikgonj district, rural Bangladesh, successfully changed unhygienic practices by encouraging mothers to find local solutions to improve hygiene. These solutions involved improved ground sanitation of babies' play area and improved personal hygiene after babies defecate. Almost two-thirds of the behaviours listed were adopted by 96 per cent or more of the mothers while the other third were adopted by more than 75 per cent of the mothers.
