Le droit a l'eau

The right to water, i.e. to a limited quantity of drinking water to satisfy basic human needs, is officially recognized under international law and is implemented in national laws. The report describes many measures taken to enforce the right to water, mainly in favour of the poor. It provides details of legal measures taken to implement the right to water in France, Belgium, Ireland, United Kingdom, Chile and South Africa and provides many examples of measures in force in other countries. The report concludes that there is a need to reaffirm the right to water for all and implement it at national and international levels and that there is a pressing obligation to increase international aid to facilitate provision of drinking water to rural populations in developing countries.
