Abstract | The Methodology for Participatory Assessments (MPA) presented in the Metguide is a product of the Participatory Learning and Action initiative, which investigated the links between demand-responsive, gender-sensitive approaches and sustainability in 18 large projects in 15 countries. The new ground broken by the methodology concerns the way in which it attempts to mainstream gender and poverty indicators into a participatory methodology that can be used to monitor key aspects of sustainability. In addition it offers a means for stakeholders at various levels - community, project and service provider, and policy - to clearly visualise how their actions can contribute to the goal of sustainability. Finally, it uses quantitative statistical methods to analyse qualitative data obtained from communities through participatory techniques. |
