Abstract

One of the tools to promote public awareness and understanding of water issues is the 'Water Voices' documentary series. The series consists of seven compelling films about people tackling water problems across Asia and the Pacific. ADB showed the 'Water Voices' documentary 'Tinagong Paraiso' ('Hidden Paradise') in two poor communities in the Philippines and held focus group discussions after the viewing to analyze the video's immediate effects on the residents' knowledge, attitudes and practices, and to assess the Water Voices documentary series' potential in influencing community practices. The book describes the research methodology, the focus group communities, the surveys on water and sanitation and on television and video viewing practices, and the impact of 'Hidden Paradise'. Overall, the results of the focus groups in the communities showed a strong appreciation of all key messages of the documentary.
