Abstract

The focus of this book is on understanding the hydraulics of distribution networks, which has become increasingly relevant after the introduction of computers and the exponential growth of computer model applications, also in developing countries. This is handled in Chapter 3 on steady flows in pressurised networks, and Chapter 4 on the design of water transport and distribution systems. Exercises on workshop problems and design are given in Appendices 1 and 2 respectively. Chapter 2 contains a detailed discussion of water demand, Chapter 5 is on network construction, and Chapter 6 on operation and maintenance. The attached CD contains the spreadsheet hydraulic lessons, a copy of the EPANET software and the entire batch of the input files mentioned in the tutorial of the exercises in Appendix 2. This introductory text is meant for both students in hydraulic engineering of urban water transport and experts, who are dealing with advanced problems and wish to refresh their knowledge.
