| Abstract | Four stories of unusual libraries providing access to people in remote rural areas. Filmed in Peru, Kenya and Ottawa, Ontario. One story is about the library of Dr. Nancy Dunn who has built her library on the banks of the Amazon River. Children walk, or paddle, up to an hour to visit Nancy and her library. In the Andean Province of Cajamarca, libaries are housed in the homes of farmers. Reading circles are a popular activity where Peruvians take turns reading and then discuss the topic of the book. Camels and donkeys are used in Kenya to bring literature, education and information to people who otherwise would not have access to them. This film is very useful to show the need for creativity in providing access to information to people living in remote rural areas. |
