Abstract

This Handbook is designed and intended to provide a comprehensive source of information and reference for the evaluation of laboratories involved in bacteriological testing of potable water supplies and their sources. All aspects of the laboratory operation are considered--material and media preparation, equipment needs and specifications, sample collection and handling, bacteriological methodology, quality control considerations, laboratory management, and the qualifications and responsibilities of the survey officer. The purpose of the Handbook is to assist the laboratory survey officer, laboratory director, and senior bacteriologist in charge of the water program to evaluate the many aspects of the laboratory that are involved in attaining reliable data.
