Abstract | This advisory note, based in part on the CAO’s experience in Peru to resolve issues surrounding the Yanacocha gold mine, provides hands-on guidance for implementing successful participatory water monitoring programmes. It gives examples of practical models to achieve participation in different environmental, financial and governance contexts. The guide opens in chapter 1 with a discussion of the need for participatory monitoring. Chapters 2-5 describe the four components of an effective participatory monitoring programme:
Three appendices present: summaries of eight participatory monitoring programmes surveyed to provide background for this guide; sampling methods and procedures; and a list of additional resources. |
