EMPOWERS (Euro-Med Participatory Water Resources Scenarios) has signed four agreements in Jordan to improve water and sanitation services in the Balqa Governorate.

The first will establish a water management information system for water related data. Hosted by the Balqa Governorate, the database will be available to all stakeholders, government agencies, NGOs and the private sector.  The second establishes a co-operative in Rweiha village to strengthen collective action and implement water resources management projects, especially those directed to irrigation.

The third will support a local welfare society in Subeihi village to adopt a more efficient way to dispose of household wastewater and manage water resources projects and awareness campaigns. The final memorandum is with the Omm Ayyash Women Cooperative Society to manage drinking water for the poorest 15% of households who are not connected to the village water network.  These pilots are based on the outcomes of field visits, problem tree analysis and strategic planning.
