Poor sanitation costs Tanzania 301 billion Tanzanian Shillings each year, equivalent to US$206 million, according to a desk study carried out by the Water and Sanitation Program (WSP). This sum is the equivalent of US$5 per person in Tanzania per year or 1% of the national GDP.[authors abstract]
