Abstract

The SSH4A Program aims to improve health and quality of life of 2,588 households in Kratie and Kampot provinces by improving access to sanitation and improving hygiene behaviour. The programme is supported by the AusAID Civil Society WASH Fund. Project Duration is from mid-2010 until end 2011. This assessment presents a comparison of the situation at project midterm in May/June 2011 in comparison to the baseline surveys for sanitation and hygiene from November 2010. Summarising one can state that the project delivers very well in terms of hygiene education, hygienic use of toilets and with regards to school sanitation. In terms of construction of new toilets the project seems to be off track. However, it is to state that Sanitation Marketing only started 2 months before random sample survey of the midterm evaluation and that in the meantime the SaniMart approach has proven to deliver. According to the latest data from the on-going local monitoring system, run by the DoRD and the Village Chiefs in August 2011 have the following coverage rates. [authors abstract]
