Organised in the context of the SaniEst project to improve sustainable household sanitation financed by the European Union, the event unfolded under the auspices of the Governor of the East Region, bringing together hundreds of school children, representatives of regional and national institutions and the Mayor of the rural district of Bilanga. The community reconfirmed its commitment to good hygiene and sanitation practices to ensure a healthy environment.

Throughout the ceremony, awareness raising messages were communicated through the speeches made by the different VIPs, songs and sketches, which were received with much hilarity.

Villages that have shown themselves to be avid promoters of hygiene and sanitation were encouraged to continue through the awarding of special prizes. The ceremony ended with a demonstration of handwashing and a visit of stands presenting local suppliers' household sanitation and hygiene goods and services.

The afternoon saw a friendly football match take place while the young people were encouraged to fly the flag for good hygiene and sanitation practices in their communities.
