Abstract

In 2016, Ennovent, IRC and TARU Leading Edge forged a partnership alliance to develop a Sanitation Innovation Accelerator for India's rural markets. This report captures the highlights of the first phase of the Accelerator project, which was piloted from March to September 2016. A total of 88 innovations were submitted to the Accelerator, of which six were shortlisted for a coaching trajectory to improve their business.

After sketching the rural sanitation situation in India, the report describes the process of sourcing and selecting the shortlisted innovations. It provides lessons learned and recommendations on investment ready business models, breakthrough approaches to solve sanitation challenges, start-up approaches and partnership/relationship management.

Short profiles of the six shortlisted innovators and the lead team members can be found in the appendices.
