Abstract

This report aims to help civil society organisations (CSOs) concerned with sustainable water , sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services delivery and water security to advocate for their integration and to influence polices. Following an introduction, the report describes how various targets of Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6) are linked to WASH, and how integrating a WASH sector that traditionally deals with the other targets may lead to more water secure WASH services delivery. It then explains how to integrate WASH with water security issues and what CSOs can do to achieve integration, including their role as boundary organisations and the role of information. The report introduces the WASH Integration Canvas, which maps various examples of connecting stakeholders, departments, sectors, their interests, ideas, ways of working and resources in order to create a more integrative approach towards WASH and water security. The report concludes with 8 key messages. Included as annexes are the Dublin Statement on Water and Sustainable Development, the OECD Principles on Water Governance and a list of Enabling Conditions for integrated projects.
