A network of WASH stakeholders has taken quick action by articulating a comprehensive water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) response to COVID-19 in Honduras following the WHO and UNICEF guidelines. The pre-existing Roundtable for WASH in Emergencies (MESA) supported by UNICEF has recently published a Coordination Plan for the preparedness and response of the WASH sector to the COVID-19 pandemic. This plan is to serve as a reference for the WASH sector in Honduras and provides an effective and comprehensive response for the vulnerable and affected population through the provision of quality water and basic sanitation as well as hygiene promotion measures.

MESA elaborated the plan with the support of its members, including the Para Todos, Por Siempre (PTPS) movement and its partners, and UNICEF shared it with the WASH sector liaison of the National Risk Management System (SINAGER). Thanks to the proactive approach of PTPS, key sector stakeholders were able to get mobilised quickly to work on the WASH response. IRC is the host of the PTPS secretariat.

The plan in Spanish is available online.
