The Agence Française de Développement (AFD) together with its partners is pleased to invite you to a webinar on “Water drives resilient countries: call for action to public development banks towards a Water Finance Coalition” in the framework of the Finance in common summit.

We invite you to join us on Tuesday, 10 November 2020 from 4pm to 5.30pm CET.

The webinar will include speakers from AFD, Banobras, CAF, CDG Capital, EIB, OECD, Sanitation and Water for All and the World Bank.

Climate change is water change. As described by the IPCC, the greatest risks of global warming relate to water. Water resources are under pressure. Billions of people are lacking proper access to water and sanitation with impacts on health, economy and the environment. The covid-19 pandemic is a brutal reminder of the need for such basic services. However, the water and sanitation sector remains underfinanced. According to the World Bank, more than USD 110 billion would be necessary every year to achieve safe access to water and sanitation, but only one-third of the needs are actually covered.

Public Development Banks have played a key role in financing water and sanitation infrastructures in many countries. The current challenges call for a larger intervention of PDBs to finance the sector, especially in emerging and developing countries.

Through this event AFD, CAF, EIB and the World Bank, in cooperation with Sanitation and Water for All, will make a call for action to all the Public Development Banks - whether multilateral, bilateral or national – to work together towards a Water Finance Coalition in order to develop financing for water and sanitation and to foster cooperation among them.

The event is co-organised by IRC and AFD and will take place in English only on the Livestorm platform.

Please register to this event by Friday the 6th of November.
