Bongo is one of the driest regions in Ghana. The district is in a rocky zone where 103,000 people live in small towns and rural communities. The groundwater in the region has a high fluoride contents which is bad for teeth and bones. In 2015, the District Assembly started to replace the wells by safe water systems. Together with WaterAid Ghana work has been done in 24 communities. Water services for communities, schools and health centres have been installed, upgraded or improved. Strong progress is being made and the Bongo District Engineer for WASH, Ebenezer Asomaning, thinks that Sustainable Development Goal 6 may be achieved by 2025.
