Mobilising Women’s Leadership to achieve SDG 6 - webinar poster

This webinar in the South Asia Dialogue Series on Sustainable Development Goal 6 series co-convened by UNICEF, SWA, WaterAid, FANSA, IRC, CPRIndia and Athena put women's empowerment front and centre.

The connections between gender and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) are profound, and the sector is beginning to explore the integration of gender-transformative principles into WASH programming and research. Gender-transformative approaches challenge inequalities and move beyond an instrumentalist approach to gender in development interventions. This includes two dimensions: the potential impact of WASH programming on Womens Empowerment in communities and the need for inclusive and equitable WASH sector participation and leadership leading to more impactful programming.

The workshop featured a presentation on a research study (MUSE project, Emory University) on how and to what extent WASH conditions, interventions, and policies impact women's empowerment, or the extent that women's empowerment impacts WASH conditions and a second presentation on how operating with an equality focus in a WASH related government office (Ministry of Climate Change WASH section Pakistan) improves impact in the field, followed by discussants from ISB, BRAC and others.
